Hi I have toyed with the idea of raffleing my house for the last year but was put off by a reply from the gambling commission when I enquired about the legalities of running a raffle. They informed me that it is illegal for anyone other than a registerd charity to run a 'lottery' I am in the process of obtaining a solicitor to look in to this and will be contacting certain charities to see how I can link up with them to our mutual benefit.
I think raffling a property is an excellant idea as long as its entered in to with eyes open and a possitive attitude and a fail safe is built into the plan.
I would like to know (if you are happy to tell me) how one gets the necessary license, or what needs to be done to continue legally without one.
I am certainly glad I found this site as I think as a self help group this is quite powerful. I wonder why the estate agents haven't found a way to use this method of selling to their advantage?

Wow a "4 Bed Detached House" raffle, 25 pound a ticket!!

I'm looking at raffling my house as well. I've been looking around and it looks like someone's actually doing it!!!

Looks like it's just been launched.

Apparently using http://www.raffle.it means that you will not fall fowl of the "gambling commission" because they use a system that does not require a random chance draw to select the winner!

I am the guy who created and hosts www.winmyhouse.info and I can tell you all that I have researched the legalities of this very well indeed. I get dozens of emails and telephone calls every day from poeple in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia all asking "can we do the same with our property".

In times of economic slump and the effect on housing the Estate Agents are powerless to sell houses and seem unable to come up with a solution.

So, it takes the public to come up with innovative ideas such as this. I started this three weeks ago and I have no idea if it will work or not. What I can tell you is that it is a genuine attempt to get houses sold and poeples lives uplifted a bit. Sellers are all feeling depressed right now, so come on all you doubters, lets be innovative and test the water with this idea.
I repeat, I have researched the lagalities and it sits within the law as it stands right now so no need to worry.

The public WANT this idea to work so lets go for it.

I currently own a 3 bed 2 and half bath house in Paphos, Cyprus, small development, large pool with glorious views of sea and mountains. Now need to raffle or sell very quickly within 8 to 10 months. Would be interested in working with someone who has expertise of marketing. Would be hoping to raise 250,000 gbp

We are seriously considering raffling our property .
I noticed your comments and wondered what you would be prepared to do and how . We were looking at selling 25000 chances at £10 .

did you see the bbc news today about the couple raffling thier home for £25. per ticket the house was worth a million and they needed to sell 46 thousands tickets
